Strengths
- Mature, enormous ecosystem and documentation.
- Batteries included: mocks, snapshots, coverage out of the box.
- Default in many React/Node toolchains.
Trade-offs
- ESM support is still rougher than Vite-native runners.
- Slower cold starts than Vitest on modern stacks.
When to use
Reach for Jest in established Node/React projects already standardised on it, or where its vast plugin ecosystem is a deciding factor.
